Residents of the L.A. neighborhood of Wilmington could not believe their luck when a local gas station began selling gas for $1.10 a gallon. Instead of some crazy promotion it was a computer glitch that the attendant was unaware of. Over 8,000 gallons were dispensed before the error was found, at an estimated loss of $21,000.
The lines to the pumps were long enough to disrupt traffic and the police had to be dispatched to keep cars moving. Shortly after that, the station’s owner was alerted and shut off the pumps. It would be interesting to know how many people blew a blood vessel when they were told they would not be getting the cheap gas.
