6 Recent IIHS Top Safety Picks

Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested 13 small cars. Six of those cars managed to earn the IIHS’s coveted Top Safety Pick award. Below is the list of most recent choices.

• 2011 Lexus CT 200h
• 2012 Ford Focus
• 2012 Honda Civic
• 2011 Hyundai Elantra
• 2011 Nissan Juke
• 2011 Toyota Prius

In order for a car to be recognized as an IIHS Top Safety Pick it must achieve the highest possible ratings in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The car also has to be equipped with electronic stability control system, brake assist and anti-lock braking system.

It is a testament to the dedication of automakers that so many vehicles are receiving Top Safety Pick ratings. Let’s hope the numbers keep swelling.
