Have Used-Car Prices Reached Their Peak?

Some are saying that after climbing continuously since just after the beginning of the recession, used-car priced may have finally crested. According to Automotive Lease Guide, prices of previously-owned retail light trucks and retail cars started to drop after peaking earlier in the year.

ALG projects that the trend of rising used vehicle prices that started in 2009 is probably at an end. Taking the place of used vehicle sales are new vehicle sales, which in August had for the first time since 2009 overtaken used car sales in the number of units moved.

Auto manufacturers and finance companies use the predications made by ALG to design their low rate auto financing and leasing deals.
